Saguaros stand their eerie watch in the Sonoran Desert. The Colorado River goes about its millennial, never-done work of sculpting the Grand Canyon. Last remnants of the world's largest ponderosa pine forest cluster beneath snowy peaks. This is all Arizona. There's much to savor here, and much to save.
Campaign for Arizona Wilderness
Arizona's landscape defines the American West. There are hotter deserts than the Sonoran in the U.S. and higher mountains. But the states are few that can claim both, none that can add a Grand Canyon for good measure. If wonders range across Arizona's landscape, so does wilderness. Not nearly enough, though, is yet protected. Finishing the job is the work of the Arizona Wilderness Coalition.

National Monument Protection
Arizona boasts five national monuments established in the last five years. They were created to protect archaeological treasures, wide-open spaces and a trove of biodiversity. But off-road vehicle use, grazing, vandalism, energy development and inadequate management plans could thwart protection for these special places.

Grand Canyon National Park
Grand Canyon National Park stirs images of wide expanses, steep cliffs, travertine waterfalls, and the wild and tumultuous Colorado River a mile below the rim of the magnificent canyon. The River has unsuccessfully been proposed for wilderness designation several times. Current management planning will decide the fate of the river for decades to come.
